Trosolwg y cwrs

The globalisation of economies across the world means businesses operate on an international level to meet the growing demand for goods and services. As organisations find ways to respond to these demands, employees with responsible international management expertise are in high demand.

Our BSc Business Management (International Management) is designed to equip you with practical skills and professional confidence for a successful career in a multinational corporation.

You’ll develop international management expertise from our team of researchers and business practitioners. They’ll introduce you to the principles of multiculturalism, ethics and morality and practices like cultural marketing, international business logistics and human resource management.

With their support, you’ll build a skill set to respond to current developments and challenges in business and society, as you learn to consider the social, economic and ethical implications of managerial decision making.

Strwythur y cwrs

This is a three-year full-time programme, consisting 120 credits a year.  All Students, regardless of route, take a common Year 1, which does not count towards the final degree classification.  At the end of Year 1, you have the option to either stay with the BSc Business Management (International Management) degree or to move to one of the other Business Management programmes if you have developed an interest in another area.

In Years 2 and 3, compulsory modules are determined by the choice of route but you also choose optional modules from an approved list enabling you to further tailor the degree to your interests.

Mae'r modiwlau a ddangosir yn esiampl o'r cwricwlwm arferol. Byddant yn cael eu hadolygu cyn blwyddyn academaidd 2020/21. Bydd y modiwlau terfynol yn cael eu cyhoeddi erbyn mis Medi 2020

Blwyddyn un

You will study seven compulsory modules in your first year which provide a solid grounding the disciplines necessary for a Business Management graduate. All students on the Business Management programmes pursue the same first year modules which provide a common basis from which the specialised routes develop in the second and final years and allow you to experience a range of different subject specialisms prior to entering your second year.

In the final year you will undertake two core double modules. The remainder of the programme is made up of optional modules (either double or single) at least half of which you will be required to select from the group of International Management modules. This gives you a degree of flexibility and allows you to tailor your studies to your interests.

A range of optional modules are offered each year but the specific modules on offer may change from year to year enabling the programme to remain up to date and relevant to current and emerging issues in business and management.

Mae'r Brifysgol wedi ymrwymo i ddarparu amrywiaeth eang o opsiynau modiwl lle’n bosibl. Ond byddwch yn ymwybodol er y byddwn yn gwneud pob ymdrech i gynnig dewis, gall hyn gael ei gyfyngu mewn rhai amgylchiadau. Y rheswm am hyn yw'r ffaith mai dim ond nifer cyfyngedig o leoedd sydd ar gael ar rai modiwlau, a gaiff eu dyrannu ar sail y cyntaf i'r felin. Mae'n ofynnol i fodiwlau eraill sicrhau isafswm nifer o fyfyrwyr cyn gallu eu cynnal, er mwyn gwneud yn siŵr y gellir cyflwyno addysg o ansawdd priodol. Gall modiwlau gael eu cyfyngu oherwydd gwrthdaro yn yr amserlen hefyd, ac er bod y Brifysgol yn ymdrechu i amharu cyn lleied â phosibl ar eich dewis, byddai'n syniad da i chi ofyn am gyngor gan yr Ysgol berthnasol am y dewisiadau modiwl sydd ar gael.

Dysgu ac asesu

Sut caf fy addysgu?

Our teaching is heavily informed by research and combines academic rigour with practical relevance. Internationally recognised faculty, who are at the forefront of knowledge within their field, bring the lessons learned from their most recent research into the classroom, giving you access to critical business thinking and contemporary real life examples and scenarios.

We will provide your teaching and learning resources, and will be responsive to your needs and views. For your part, you will need to put in the necessary amount of work both during and outside formal teaching sessions, and make good use of the facilities provided.

Most modules involve a mixture of lectures and small group teaching (called classes, seminars, workshops or tutorials).

Lectures provide an overview of the key concepts and frameworks for a topic, equipping you to carry out independent research for the seminars and to develop your own ideas. Seminars provide an opportunity for you to explore the ideas outlined in the lectures. Seminars may take various formats, including plenary group discussion, small-group work and student-led presentations.

Sut y caf fy nghefnogi?

You will be allocated a personal tutor at the beginning of your studies. Normally, your personal tutor will teach on your own degree course and you will keep the same personal tutor throughout your course.

Your personal tutor will be able to give you advice on academic issues, including module choice and assessment. If you encounter any problems which affect your studies, your personal tutor should always be your first point of contact; they will be able to put you in touch with the wide range of expert student support services provided by the University and the Students' Union as appropriate. You are required to meet with your personal tutor three points during each academic year but you are also encouraged to get in touch with them at any other point if you need help or advice.

For day-to-day information, the staff of our Undergraduate Student Hub are available, in person, by telephone or by email, from 8am to 6pm each weekday during term time to answer your questions.

You will have access through the Learning Central website to relevant multimedia material, presentations, lecture handouts, bibliographies, further links, electronic exercises and discussion circles.

The University offers a range of services including the Careers Service, the Counselling Service, the Disability and Dyslexia Service, the Student Support Service, and excellent libraries and resource centres.

Sut caf fy asesu?

Assessment methods vary from module to module but, across your degree scheme as a whole, you can expect a mixture of exams, coursework, essays, practical work, presentations, and individual and group projects.

Feedback

We will provide you with regular feedback on your work. This comes in a variety of formats including oral feedback, personalised feedback on written work, and generic written feedback.

You will be given general feedback following each examination period and will be able to discuss your overall performance with your personal tutor.

We recognise the importance of gaining work experience during your studies. Our dedicated Placements Manager offers advice on available work placements, internships, work experience and opportunities to enhance your CV and broaden your horizons. Support with job applications and interview techniques is also available from our in-house Careers Consultant.

As a student on one of our Business Management programmes, and if you achieve a 60% average in your first year (with no fails), you will be invited to apply for our BSc Business Management with Integrated Work Placement.

This unique and innovative programme provides a combination of theoretical ideas and practical techniques providing a thorough grounding for a variety of careers in a range of management functions, such as marketing and human resource management, as well as in general management.

The programme offers:

  • 20 week work placement in the second semester of year two (affording you the opportunity to explore and evidence the core business management disciplines in a real life work setting)
  • Local business experience in organisations such as Admiral, Transport for Wales, Deloitte, HSBC, Barclays, Wales and West Utilities, NHS Wales, and the DVLA.
  • Credit-bearing experience
  • Paid placement (£250/ week on average)
  • Practical work-based experience
  • A contract that can be extended by mutual consent

If you decide that you would like to undertake a year-long placement, you can either apply to one of our ‘with Professional Placement Year’ programmes or transfer into one at any time up until the end of your second year of study. The placement is undertaken in the third year of a four-year degree programme.

International Study

To give students the opportunity to gain a global perspective, we offer four year degree programmes “with a Year Abroad”. You may apply during your second year for a place on these programmes and if you are successful you will transfer to the four year degree scheme. The Year Abroad will then become an integral part of the degree.

We have exchange agreements with high ranking Business Schools and universities worldwide where you will study modules that are taught and assessed in English. A list of partner institutions, all of which offer modules taught in English, can be found on our website.

Our Exchange team and the University Global Opportunity Centre work closely with students in preparation for and during their studies abroad.
