Supporting women at risk of repeat pregnancy and recurrent care proceedings: A mixed methods study of Reflect services in Wales
This research project is in competition for funding with one or more projects available across the ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP). Usually the projects which receive the best applicants will be awarded the funding. Find out more information about the DTP and how to apply.
The Wales Doctoral Training Partnership, Health and Care Research Wales and Barnardo’s are offering a fully funded PhD opportunity in the area of social work.
The successful candidate will undertake a study of Reflect services in Wales, which are services designed to support women who have experienced the permanent and compulsory removal of a child from their care, and who are at risk of repeat pregnancy and recurrent care proceedings.
The evidence base related to services of this type is under-developed and the proposed research will provide valuable insights regarding needs, delivery and outcomes. It is anticipated the study will employ a mixed methods design, incorporating analysis of regional data sets and ethnographic fieldwork.
The successful candidate will be supported within the Children’s Social Care Research and Development Centre (CASCADE). CASCADE aims to improve the wellbeing and safety of children and their families and is concerned with all aspects of community-based responses to social need. The opportunity is indicative of CASCADE’s commitment to forging and maintaining strong links between academics, policymakers and practitioners in Wales.
Due to the sensitive nature of the research, applications are sought from candidates with previous social work/social care experience.
