Into Film is an education charity that seeks to put film at the heart of children and young people’s learning and cultural experience.
Our ambitious UK-wide programme will provide 5-19 year olds with unparalleled opportunities to see, think, make and imagine, contributing to their educational, cultural, creative and personal development
Activities
Into Film believes that film is the richest of educational resources because of its ability to tell compelling stories and because of the enormous historic, literary, geographic, linguistic, cultural and social values those stories embody. This enables film to bring to life education for children of all ages and levels of ability in a unique way. Film truly speaks across age, class, gender and background.
As part of Into Film Cymru’s outreach and inclusion provision, young people in all areas of Wales are encouraged to take part in aspirational activities to expand their horizons. Our ethos is to provide cultural experiences to those who may not otherwise have the chance to take part in such activities, to equip them with transferable skills and develop the confidence they need to reach their potential.
The Into Film Cymru education strategy reflects the recommendations from the Welsh Government’s ‘Arts in Education Review’ (Chaired by Professor Dai Smith) and ‘Tackling Poverty through Culture Report’ (Baroness Andrews) and Into Film Cymru looks forward to working with the Arts Council of Wales and Welsh Government to implement the findings of these reports in line with the proposed National Curriculum announced recently.
Into Film is funded by the National lottery together with funding from the film industry and a number of other sources and supported by the BFI.
We will achieve this by:
- working with the education and informal youth sectors to support and promote learning through and about film
- partnering with industry to enhance the appreciation and understanding of film
- taking advantage of the learning solutions made possible by digital technology
Into Film incorporates the legacy of two leading film education charities, First Light and FILMCLUB, and will be working together with a range of partners in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
