These programmes are designed to meet the need for confident and safe practitioners in the social services by providing professional training and qualifications.
The Continuing Professional Education and Learning (CPEL) framework is a suite of programmes which offer a strongly experiential approach to professional development. The CPEL Alliance is delighted to have been commissioned by the Care Council for Wales to develop and deliver the CPEL programmes listed below. The Alliance is made up of Bangor, Glyndŵr and Swansea Universities working together, led by Cardiff University.
From October 2014 there will be three 60 credit programmes leading to both post qualifying social work professional awards and to Higher Education awards. These are:
- Experienced Practitioner Programme (EPP) (60 credits at Level 6) – leading to the award of Graduate Certificate
- Experienced Practitioner Programme (EPP) (60 credits at Level 7) – leading to the award of Postgraduate Certificate
- Senior Practitioner Programme (SPP) (60 credits at Level 7) – leading to the award of Postgraduate Certificate or, if the EPP at Level 7 has previously been completed, the award of Postgraduate Diploma.
From October 2015 there will be a Consultant Social Worker Programme (CSWP) leading to the award of a Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits at Level 7), or, if either the L7 EPP or SPP has previously been completed, the award of a Postgraduate Diploma.
Method of delivery
The EPP (at Level 6 and at Level 7) and the SPP will be delivered primarily on a distance learning basis.
The Cardiff University virtual learning environment (VLE) will be used as the central platform for this but students will also engage with and relate to their most local Alliance university (Bangor, Cardiff, Glyndŵr and Swansea) for student support.
