Trosolwyg

Rwy'n darparu gwasanaeth electron biolegol a microsgopeg ysgafn, sy'n cwmpasu pob agwedd ar baratoi samplau, ac yn cynghori ar ddylunio arbrofol i ymchwilwyr ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd, sefydliadau academaidd eraill, y GIG a diwydiant. Ers dechrau fy ngyrfa microsgopeg ym 1997, rwyf wedi archwilio a dadansoddi amrywiaeth eang o samplau, gan gynnwys:

  • meinwe fel yr arennau, yr ymennydd, croen, braster ac asgwrn
  • Celloedd diwylliedig a rhydd
  • Fesiglau a firysau allgellog
  • Ffibrau mwynau a nanoparticles

Mae fy niddordebau ymchwil technolegol yn cynnwys:

  • Gwella technegau prosesu meinwe a datblygu dulliau newydd o baratoi samplau.
  • Gwella sensitifrwydd staenio immunohistochemical gan ddefnyddio ymhelaethu marcwyr, a datblygu marcwyr newydd gyda'r bwriad o ganfod moleciwlau sengl awtomataidd ar y lefel ficrosgopig ysgafn
  • Dylunio newydd ymgorffori resinau a thechnegau staenio i'w defnyddio mewn tomograffeg SEM

Ymgysylltu

I am engaged in collaborations with the Electron Microscopy Unit, Department of Cellular Pathology, Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust, including:

1. The effects of tissue processing for electron microscopy on the final thickness of the glomerular basement membrane, measurement of which is important in the diagnosis and staging of glomerular diseases.

2.Developing an immunoelectron microscopical assay to positively identify SAR-COV-2 in the tissue of patients with chronic viral infection or 'Long Covid'
