I use numerical and analytical models to understand how the outer part of the Earth is able to deform and be recycled into the interior. My current work involves modelling the rheology of subduction decollement zones at a metre to kilometre scale, with the aim of constraining how transient slip events are generated. These ‘slow slip events’ are of interest because they occur at time-scales which significantly slower than earthquakes, but are orders of magnitude faster than typical plate velocities and are somehow related to the generation of megathrust earthquakes.
