Shixuan is a postdoctoral research associate in statistical forecasting at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University, where he works on the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) project "Resilient Remanufacturing Networks: Forecasting, Informatics and Holons" led by Prof Aris Syntetos.

Shixuan holds a BEng in Electrical Engineering and Automation, a BSc in Economics, a MSc (distinction) in Money, Banking and Finance, and a PhD in Economics. Shixuan’s doctoral research focused on financial econometrics. In April 2017, he defended his thesis “Four Essays on Modelling Asset Returns” at University of Birmingham, where he was funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

Shixuan's main research interests focus on statistical forecasting. Additionally, he worked on econometric theory and empirical finance. His work has been published on Journal of Time Series Analysis, International Review of Financial Analysis, and Pacific-Basin Finance Journal. In September 2016, he was awarded a Royal Economic Society (RES) junior fellowship.

The current position that Shixuan holds is solely devoted to research. Prior to joining Cardiff Business School, Shixuan taught serveral Econometrics courses as a Instructor or a Teaching Associate at University of Birmingham, including Introduction to Econometric Software (PhD level), Econometrics (master level), and Introductory Econometrics (undergraduate level).
