Having graduated from Cardiff Law School in 2001, Leanne returned as a lecturer in September 2006. She currently runs the undergraduate Family Law module, as well as teaching on the Legal Foundations and Research Methods in Law modules. Her research interests are in the area of family law, particularly the law governing parenthood and parental disputes. She has published extensively on the subject of lesbian parenting and the law and has recently been involved in a large Ministry of Justice funded research project, which explored the experience of litigants in person in the family courts. She is currently leading a Bar Council funded project to explore the work of McKenzie Friends in family law cases.

Leanne is a founding member of the Network for Family Regulation and Society and, together with other members, has been awarded a GW4 accelerator grant to develop appropriate research methods for the investigation of the 'delegalised space' in which family disputes are increasingly resolved. This project is building on a particular interest in the use of the internet as a source of information and support for the resolution of family disputes.

Leanne is as enthusiastic about her teaching as she is about her research. In 2013 she was shortlisted for OUP's Law Teacher of the Year award. In 2014, she was awarded Cardiff's Enriching Student Life Award for 'Most Effective Teacher'.

Before joining Cardiff Law School, Leanne was a doctoral student and tutor at Queen's Unviersity of Belfast and she also taught on the LLB programme at the University of Bristol. She has been a visiting scholar at Emory University, Atlanta and at the Australian Institute of Family Studies, Melbourne.
