Hugo has been involved in teaching on the Master of Public Health programme since 2003. He is particularly involved in the ‘Health Management and Leadership’ and ‘Health Economics Policy and Planning’ modules.
He has wide ranging public health research interest including the prevention of ill-health and the promotion of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. He is currently involved in research on:
- The use of improvement science to improve health service quality
- The epidemiology and aetiology of various long term conditions
- Digital health
He is currently a co-supervisor for four PhDs on the above topics and involved in research collaborations in Cardiff University, University Hospital, Oxford, the INCLINICA Foundation, Spain, and the University of the Highlands and Islands.
Hugo’s main job is as Director of Public Health and Policy, NHS Highland and is a Visiting Professor in the University of the Highlands and Islands.
