Andy Klom was appointed in March 2012 as Head of the European Commission Representation in the Netherlands. In this capacity his main task is to represent the EC/EU to Dutch authorities, politicians, press, business community and civil society. His work involves political, press, public affairs and public diplomacy activities.
During 2005-2012 Andy Klom was the Head of the European Commission Office in Cardiff, Wales. The EC Office in Wales is a regional representation of the European Commission and part of the EC Representation in the United Kingdom, which consists of four offices in London, Edinburgh, Belfast and Cardiff. His job responsibilities in Cardiff were similar to those in The Hague.
Since joining the European Commission in 1993 Andy Klom spent a large part of his career working for the EC's External Relations (foreign affairs) department. This department has now become part of the European External Action Service. In the External Relations department Andy was responsible for a variety of negotiations and diplomatic relations with Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Mercosur).
Andy Klom has also been active in the academic field. He spent the 2003-2004 academic year at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas in Austin as visiting professor and resident EU Fellow, teaching graduate courses on EU Foreign Policy. During 2006-2008 he also taught graduate courses on EU Foreign Policy at the Cardiff School of European Studies, where he became an Honorary Research Fellow in 2008. Andy has published internationally on issues related to his EU work (energy policy, trade policy, Latin America).
