Research Interests

Janet Israel is a Lecturer within the Cardiff School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies. A qualified nurse, midwife and teacher of adult education with a keen interest in newborn screening, genetics and education. Practice.

Career Overview

A qualified nurse and midwife for 20 years plus with national and international experience. Has worked as a lecturer in Cardiff School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies since 1998 with a pre and post registration education remit. Has developed into the field of research over the last 5- 6 years following a Health Professions Wales Sponsorship award and a Cardiff University, School of nursing and Midwifery Studies secondment.   Has worked closely with their Genetics foci team and the Newborn Screening Wales Department.

Mothers experience of newborn screening

Postnatal Screening: Mothers$acirc;   reasons for their decision about an optional newborn screening test explored

Advancements in newborn bloodspot screening: Tandem Mass Spectrometry & MCADD

She has recently been awarded an rcbcwales PhD Fellowship to look at Cord Blood Collection for Stem Cell Storage with a Commercial company and the Implications on Midwifery Practice.

Teaching Profile Janet has a broad range of teaching experience in both pre and post registration nursing and midwifery education from diploma to Masters level.

  • Lead link for Cardiff SONMS with the newly formed Wales NHS National Genetics Education and Development Centre.
