Biography

My name is Abyd Quinn Aziz and I am a Reader in Social Work at Cardiff University and Programme Director of the MA Social Work.  I am a Registered Social Worker.

My last role in practise was setting up the first Family Group Conferencing project in south Wales, leaving when we had run over 100 conferences.  Before this, I practised as a social worker in a range of fields (child protection and mental health) in the statutory sector and with third sector organisations as well as freelancing for a while in roles such as independent chair of child protection conference.  Through my career I have had breaks for practice to work as trainer in social work, child protection and management development and my main interests are in children and families social work and anti-racism in social work and higher education.

I am also a member of organisations outside work that look at diversity and discrimination and was a trustee of Diverse Cymru, Founder of Plaid BME and on the steering group of Race Alliance Wales. I am on BASW Cymru national commitee and on Cardiff UCU executive.

Most recently I have jointly editted Livingston, W.; Redcliffe, J and Quinn Aziz, A. (2023) Social Work in Wales Policy Press, Bristol. https://policy.bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/social-work-in-wales  (Publication Date 01 June 2023)

I use the time I have left with my family and running and used to enjoy travelling!
