My name is Sharon Anyango Ayayo, I'm a research assistant in Statistics at the Centre for Trials Research, Cardiff University. I did an undergradute degree in Statistics at The University of Nairobi in Kenya from 2014 to 2018 and graduated with first class honours. I then secured a job as a statistical programmer at Phastar Limited in Kenya where I worked from January 2019 to September 2019, Phastar is a Contract Research Organization (CRO) that works with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to provide statistical consulting for various clinical trials. While I was still working at Phastar, I was awarded a full scholarship for Master of Science in Medical Statistics by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, MRC International Statistics and Epidemiology Group (ISEG) in May 2019. I did my Msc from September 2019 to September 2020 and graduated with a distinction. I then started my role at Cardiff University in December 2020.

At Cardiff University, I have gained an insight into the planning and execution of complex research studies in oncology as well as school and social programmes. These studies require a broad range of statistical methods including survival analysis, mixed models and various clustered study designs.

Currently I'm working on the following studies as the trial statistician together with the clinical research teams:

The SWIS Trial: An evaluation of school based social work – CASCADE (cascadewales.org)

ACE : Active, Connected, Engaged - A multi-centre randomised controlled trial of a peer volunteer led active ageing programme to prevent decline in physical function in older people at risk of mobility disability.

SAMADI : Oral glycoside supplement (triterpenoid saponins) for early and intermediate stage age-related macular degeneration (AMD): an exploratory randomised placebo-controlled trial.

PEARL : PET-Based Adaptive Radiotherapy Clinical Trial

TAPERS : Treating Anxiety to PrevEnt Relapse in pSychosis: a feasibility trial

I completed the following study and uploaded the results to EudraCT:

A phase 2 study of the monocyte-targeted histone deacetylase inhibitor Tefinostat (CHR-2845) in chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML).
