I received a PhD from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2012 with a thesis in ferroelectrics. Beside thesis, I also worked on subjects such as high temperature superconductors and polymer dynamics as well as open quantum systems. Shortly after obtaining PhD, I joined National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Tsukuba, Japan as a post doc doing research on graphene systems, where I was awarded a two-year fellowship by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). After spending some time in Exeter (~ 3 years, Josephson resonators) and Manchester (~ 1 year, van der Waals materials), I came to Cardiff University as a Lecturer in 2019. As a physicist, I have great fun in finding out the workings of Nature. My research interests are broad (check my publications), currently focused on physical boundary effects, topological insulators and complex systems (e.g. glasses and networks), and they all contribute in one way or another in painting a coherent picture of Nature for me.

Supervision

I'm strongly inclined to have undergrads and postgraduates working with me in the following areas:

  • Macroscopic theory of boundary effects (e.g. light and particle scattering with metals and semiconductors)
  • Physics of glass transitions and complex systems
  • Metal whiskering
  • Superconductivity & magnetism in 2D systems (CuO2 planes, atomic layers...)
  • Topological aspects of physical systems

Please contact me directly if you are interested.
