Dr Joseph Lambert

Lecturer in Translation Studies

Ysgol Ieithoedd Modern

At Cardiff, I teach across a range of modules in Translation Studies, working with students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

As a researcher, I am primarily interested in a range of questions relating to ethics in translation. To date, I have written on topics including codes of conduct for translators, professional translator ethics, ethics in sport interpreting, and hermeneutics.

My research seeks to question the commensurability of theoretical conceptions of ethics with the “real-life” practice of translation. This practical thread of my research is informed by my experience as a translator. I set up my own freelance translation company in 2012, specialising in sporting translation and working with a number of high-profile clients.

I hold a BA in French and Italian, an MA in Translation Studies, and a PhD in Translation Studies, all from the University of Hull.
