Trosolwg
I am a Lecturer in Criminology in the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University.
My research interests are in the areas of illicit markets, drug policy and the use of social media data to research illicit markets. In particular I am interested in how new forms of data collection (e.g. crowdsourcing, social sensing, web-scrapers and any other form of computer-mediated communication data) can be used to better understand the inner working of illicit markets and help practitioners and policy makers to develop strategies to reduce harm and improve the health of communities.
Prior to the current appointment I was a PhD candidate at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Milan and a researcher at Trasncrime (2011-2015). From August 2013 to Febraury 2014, I was a visiting scholar at University of Maryland, College Park (MD), where I collaborated with Professor Peter Reuter. I graduated magna cum laude in Applied Social Science, specializing in Crime Sciences and Technologies for Security, at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan (2011).
I welcome proposals from prospective Ph.D. students with an interest in drug policy, illicit markets, darknet markets and the use of computer-mediated communications to research crime-related problems.
