I am a post-doctoral research associate on a CALIN project with Prof. Les Baillie where I am studying the antibacterial activity of various plants. I am also studying how microwave energy can be used to accelerate the development of molecular assays for the detection of pathogens of public health importance. My research employs knowledge in the fields of microbiology, bioinformatics, molecular biology and microwave engineering.

I undertook my PhD in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science at Cardiff University. In my PhD, I looked at how microwaves and magnetite beads can be used to develop a rapid ELISA assay for the detection of M. abscessus. After my PhD, I researched into how newly developed monoclonal anti-mycolic acid antibody fragments (gallibodies) can be used to specifically and accurately identify active TB on macrophages from biological samples.
