I am a lecturer in physiotherapy based in the School of Healthcare Sciences. I am module lead for 2 modules (HCT 022 & 023) for the MSc in Sport and Exercise Physiotherapy. I continue to work clincially part time in priavte practice and for Welsh Gymnastics.

My main area of experience is in the field of sports injury management, working across numerous sports throughout my career which include Welsh gymnastics, Netball Wales, Wales touch, professional and amateur rugby union. I have also worked at 6 Commonwealth games with Team Wales (Birmingham 2022, Gold Coast 2018, Glasgow 2014, Delhi 2010, Melbourne 2006, Manchester 2002), and 3 summer Olympic games (Rio 2016, London 2012, Beijing 2008) and 2 Winter Olympic Games (Beijing 2022, Sochi 2014) with Team GB and will be deputy chief physiotherapist in Paris 2024.

I am Education chair for the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sport & Exercise Medicine and am passionate about professional development.

My first language is Welsh and support students who take modules through the medium of welsh.

I am currently completing a Professional Doctorate in Advanced Healthcare Practice (year 6). My research is looking at the experiences of physiotherapists working in elite sport on speaking up and what the barriers and enablers are. This is an exploratory descriptive qualitative study.

My main areas of teaching relate to the following 2 MSc modules:

Assessment and treatment of sport injuries
Sport and Exercise Particiaption, Inter-disciplinary Management and Injury prevention

I also teach on the pre registeration Msc in Physiotherapy

Clinical reasoning and decision making in physiotherapy
Fundamentals of physiotherapy

I worked as a clinician for 23 years, with 12 of those in elite sport prior to joining the academic staff at Cardiff University, School of Healthcare Sciences. I attained advanced FHEA fellow status in 2021 and a diploma in leadership and management in 2014. In 2003 I completed the MMACP award and was achieved an MSc in Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation at Bristol University in 2000 where my research was into the current management of concussion. I am currently studing a Professional Doctorate in Advanced Healthcare Practice at Cardiff University and my area of research is speaking up / whistleblowing. Within the University I lead on a number of student engagement activiteis related to sports physiotherapy.

My main area of experience is in the field of sports injury management, in particular within youth sports. But I have worked across a wide number of sports throughout my career, including gymnastics (mens and womens across a number of discplines), netball, boxing, disability athletics, judo, GB rowing, ice hockey, rugby union and league.

Education chair Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sport and Exercise Medicine
Previously held position of Secretary, Treasurer and regional representative wales.
Physiotherapists in Sport Academy – integral in setting up this group and piloting the first group in South Wales. Offer opportunities for newly qualified physiotherapists and 3^rd year students to shadow qualified physiotherapists working in sporting environments.
