I specialise in Innovation and digital labs in journalism and storytelling, International Journalism, and Cinema Journalism – an advanced form of mobile and videojournalism – which I'm involved in teaching at Jomec.

I'm designated a global leader in my field, recognised by several platforms and publications, such as Apple, Google, The Online Journalism Handbook; The Broadcast Journalism HandbookThe Documentary Handbook, Reimagining Journalism in Post-Truth World, and @Medium (Twitter' ns platform) where I'm one of their top 20 global writers in journalism.

I've spoken extensively at conferences and keynoted, for example, at London's Guild of Entrepreneurs, and moderated talks at UN conferences and this year will be doing so at Centre for Investigative Journalism conference on multinationals.  I have  previously worked for Channel 4 News , ABC News and BBC’s Reportage, Newsnight, Radio 4, and the World Service where as a freelance correspondent I reported from South Africa (92-94) including Nelson Mandela’s inauguration and have trained journalists in Russia, Lebanon, China, near the Syrian border and Egypt to name a few places.

As one of the first UK videojournalists in the UK, Artist in Residence at the Southbank Centre and a member of Chatham House for more than twenty years, I have extensive experience of factual storytelling and am the recipient of several awards from NUS student teaching awards, International Videojournalism Award and the Knight Batten Awards for Innovation in Journalism (US) – the first Brit to win the award for creating a platform for the future www.viewmagazine.tv).

My PhD from University College Dublin examines factual storytelling and news and the overlap of cinema and journalism. I'm one of the advisors to the British Library for their future news project.
