Addysgu

In 2020/21, I am convening the following modules:

  • ML1192 China in Context
  • ML1130 Introduction to Chinese Linguistics
  • ML1259 Cultures in Context (Chinese)
  • ML1369 China, Greater China and China Overseas

This year, I am also teaching the Chinese seminars of ML8100 Introduction to Translation Methods.

I have previously contributed to the teaching of the following modules:

  • ML1194 Chinese Cinema
  • ML1257 Chinese Society & Culture
  • ML2201 Introduction to Sepcialised Translation

My research interests lie on the politics of popular culture, focusing on three major themes: (1) The representation of (trans)national identity in East Asian media culture, ranging from film and TV series to user generated content; (2) the practice of cultural translation in media production; (3) the symbolic-commerce of stars and celebrities in China and South Korea. My research method is mainly qualitative, discursive analysis of cultural text.
