Biology is a beautiful while complicated world. To reach the underlying simplicity, we need the help of statistical and computational methods.  My main research interest is to develop statistical methods for solving real cutting edge biological problems. I am currently working on the following projects:

  1. Clustering large scale DNA sequence data. This method could be used to study datasets with rich diversity, e.g. T cell populations (10^18 different TCR receptors), bacterial genomes (10^6 sequences). For dataset of this scale, it is difficult to explore the structure on the global scale. I aim to tackle this challenge by designing a distributed clustering algorithm.
  2. Modelling host-microbiome interactions. As we know, changes in the microbiome have an effect on the host, such as stimulating immune responses, changing the host metabolism etc. This usually involves modelling of longitudinal -omics data. On top of the longitudinal modelling, we aim to develop new methods to study the association between the longitudinal patterns.
