Exploring the potential for air pollution mitigation by urban green infrastructure for high-rise buildings

The research aims at developing and evaluating design strategies for improving air quality by appropriate urban green infrastructure for high-rise buildings, combined with urban forest, green roof and vertical planting into a whole urban environment for ecologically, economically and socially sustainable development. This research will develop a design strategies for improving air quality by appropriate urban green infrastructure for high-rise buildings in north China. Based on a literature review of relevant researches and dry deposition process, a methodology has been developed to evaluate the efficiency of air pollution removal by trees. Other studies of dry deposition are reviewed to support my research. Results of a research area in Taiyuan city with the built environment are discussed. Mitigations of particulate matters are calculated through dry deposition process using dynamic system. For next stage, the research will focus on air pollution mitigation in street canyons. CFD models, such as ENVI-met, OSPM and FLUENT, will be used to simulate wind speed and directions and pollutant concentration inside street canyons.  It aims to design an effective method to analyse green walls and offer a better strategy of UGI planning. Moreover, the software will be evaluated and compared to find an appropriate combination for more valuable simulations.
