URBAN FABRICS AS A TOOL OF URBAN HEAT ISLAND MITIGATION - Algorithmic approach for bridging building energy with urban thermal optimization
New urban methodologies have evolved over time to develop different environmental and sustainable approaches. These approaches have aimed at various sustainable goals, such as reduction of urban and architectural energy consumption, enhancement of urban micro-climate and analysis of urban carbon foot print. Researches have been trying to achieve these goals on different urban design scales cities, districts and neighbourhoods.
One of these recently developing sustainable design techniques is sustainable modelling and simulation for urban models in the design and decision making stage. Sustainable urban simulation has gained a recognisable push with the parametric design approach recent evolvement. Parametric design approach is not only the software tool which is broadly known and used currently but originally it’s an algorithmic procedure and approach to develop, present and analyse design ideas with more flexible, interactive and easy modified and controlled ways.
Through applying and creating a genetic algorithm to this urban form finding process and provide help to the investigation of the optimal thermal performance of the indoor environment, this research will reach for more holistic outcomes.
This research mainly studies the role of urban geometries on outdoor thermal performance and even to enhance it on a parametric design platform using a genetic algorithm in order to get to the optimal solution regarding this aspect.
