Exploring the Mipster: An Analysis of Contemporary Sufism and the Impact on British Muslim Youth Identity

My research aims to explore contemporary Sufism within the lives of young British Muslims and the impact this has on their identity. I aim to build on existing understandings of Neo and Universal Sufism whilst contributing new ways in understanding these terms. Through an interdisciplinary approach, I aim to observe present and alternative trends of expressing religious beliefs and affiliations through the lived experiences of Muslims in Britain. The work in this project will convey the intricacies in the spiritual and religious lives of British Muslims and how younger generations of Muslims in Britain are founding new ways to combat any complexities of retaining multiple identities. I am thoroughly enjoying my time within the Islam-UK Centre so far and I look forward as I continue to explore the outstanding facilities within the centre.
