My PhD project is entitled ‘A systems biology approach to understanding the programming of mother child interactions’ and is funded by the BBSRC SWBio doctoral training partnership. It is investigating the role of placental imprinted genes on maternal mood and offspring outcomes using gene expression analysis, infant assessments and large scale bioinformatics.
Background: I graduated from Cardiff University in 2016 with a first in Genetics BSc, having taken a placement year at the Institute of Infection and Immunity in Cardiff in 2014. The year involved investigating two key regulators of the complement system and their effects in atherosclerosis. For my final year dissertation project, I assessed the role of the imprinted gene Phlda2 in the placenta on prenatal depression in women and mice.
