Overview

I started my Full-time PhD in English Literature in October 2021. Before joining Cardiff's PGR cohort, I received a First-Class Honours degree from Aberystwyth University (2016-19) and then a Distinction in my Masters from Cardiff University (2019-20).

Under Professor Carl Plasa's supervision, my doctoral thesis aims to examine the figure of the ghost or spectre within Alfred Lord Tennyson's poetry, it's relationship with intertextuality, and finally to explore how Tennyson has haunted British cultural and literary heritage since the nineteenth century. 

Alongside my studies, I was the Editor-in-Chief for the journal Intersectional Perspectives: Identity, Culture and Society (IPICS) from Oct 2022-23. I currently serve as an Associate Editor.

Within ENCAP, I currently work as a PGR Tutor for Yr 1 students. I served as the Student Representative for English Literature and Critical and Cultural Theory from Nov 2021-Jan 2024, and was nominated as Chair of the Student/Staff Panel Sept 2022-Jan 2024. I also co-organised the ENCAPsulate 2022 and 2023 PGR Conferences.

Teaching

I am currently a Graduate Tutor within ENCAP teaching seminars on the Year 1 Module Star Cross'd Lovers (Autumn). I have previously taught on the same module and the medieval literature module Transgressive Bodies.

I was also chosen for the top 40 entries in the Doctoral Academy's Images of Research competition in December 2022 with my entry 'Tennyson From Life'.

 

Biography

I attended Aberystwyth University to complete my undergraduate degree from 2016-2019 having attained an academic Open Scholarship. I graduated with First Class Honours BA English Literature with a first-class dissertation. 

From 2019-2020, I undertook a Masters in English Literature at Cardiff University. I graduated with distinction, both overall and for my MA dissertation.

The subject of my MA thesis became the basis for my thesis proposal. I joined Cardiff University's PGR cohort in October 2021 and am currently undergoing my doctoral studies under the supervision of Professor Carl Plasa.

Whilst undertaking my doctorate, I have been furthering my professional academic experience through various means. I was Chair of the department's Student/Staff Panel (Oct 2022-Jan 2024), was Editor-in-Chief of Intersectional Perspectives: Identity, Culture and Society (Oct 2022-Oct 2023)and have organised two conferences to date.
