Currently, I am interested in developing evidence-based psychological interventions with people that are confronted with fertility problems, namely with people undergoing fertility treatment or that faced its failure and need to cope with undesired childlessness. The major goal is to improve the psychological care that is provided to this population in the NHS, offering evidence-based tools in a brief and approachable manner.

Research Summary

Most people would like to become a parent at some point in the future. However, a vast majority of people face uncontrollable and unexpected conditions, in particular fertility issues, that prevent them to achieve parenthood.

The desire to reach personal, professional and economic stability is the main reason why women are postponing parenthood over the years. Unfortunately, fertility declines with age which compromises their ability to have biological children in the future. Fertility Preservation (a reproductive technique that provides the opportunity to have genetic offspring later by undergoing In Vitro Fertilization) is currently being used at an age that undermines its success potential. My research explores how the women’s decision-making process about the use of this technique changes over time, in order to help the health care providers to offer better support and advise women about if and when to use it.
