Research summary

Alzheimer's Disease is the leading cause of dementia and is charaterised by chronic neurodegeneration as well as the accumulations of β-amyloid "plaques" and tau "tangles". The aggregation of β-amyloid peptides was first proposed as the cause of the disease in 1991. However, we still have no disease modifying therapies.

My research aims to uncover a physiological role for the β-amyloid in normal cognition. We will use an antibody to inhibit its production, before analysing any effect on learning and memory. We will also utilise a novel murine model of the disease which more accurately represents the human condition.
