Having worked in public health for over 15 years Matt has accumulated a wealth of experience and expertise in population health and behaviour change. He originally graduated in Sport and Physical Education from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff, holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Development and a Master’s in Public Health. He is currently undertaking a PhD at Cardiff University researching the impact of the family/home environment on childhood obesity

Matt has a range of research interests including obesity, physical activity, chronic disease managements, arts and health and the built environment. His work has been published in international peer-reviewed scientific journals as well presenting at national conferences.

Matt is a consultant in Public Health and currently the Head of Public Health and Wellbeing at West Berkshire Council. He is also a visiting lecturer at the University of the West of England and supports the delivery of modules including epidemiology of non-communicable disease and health promotion. He is also a UKPHR specialist assessor and previously presented Expert Testimony to inform NICE guidance on obesity. Matt is a Defined Specialist in Public Health, a member of the Faculty of Public Health, Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
