- Academic Background
I received a Bachelor of Arts (Hons, Distinction) in Linguistics and English for Specific Purposes at Mouloud Mammeri University of Tizi-Ouzou, Algeria (2014) where I also successfully completed a Master of Arts in Language and Communication (2016). My dissertation probed into MA students’ conceptualization and implementation of critical thinking skills such as analysis, comparison/contrast and evaluation in the writing of the discussion of the findings chapter of MA dissertations.
Additionally, I undertook a PhD Pre-Sessional programme at Canterbury Christ Church University (2016-2017) during which I honed my academic English and learnt about the research skills required at a PhD level.
The different modules I had during the MA course, particularly Social Semiotics and Multimodality, paved the way to my subsequent academic project, a PhD. Therefore, I am currently a PhD candidate in Language and Communication at the CLCR, Cardiff University.

Political Cartoons of Mass Protest in Algeria
My doctoral research investigates the editorial cartoons produced in the context of mass protest in Algeria. In more precise terms, I seek to highlight the communicative power of cartoons in such tumultuous events by analysing the use of multimodal metaphors as well as irony.
