C21: Maintaining Momentum

2 Ebrill 2015

27th March saw the 5th Annual Curriculum Conference take please at the Heath Park Campus.  The whole CUREMeDE team was in attendance for the day, which showcased recent developments in medical education in Wales as well as looking to the future of medical education both locally and globally.

The feel of the day was one of definite change and action.  With our healthcare professionals under more pressure and scrutiny than ever, Professor Derek Gallen, Dean of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education for The Wales Deanery, remarked:

"We're at a turning point in how medical education is valued."

He added that:

"…the key things medics need to know about are polypharmacy, co-morbidities, cognitive impairment, and ageing population."

Dr Ruth Hussey OBE, Chief Medical Officer for NHS Wales, emphasized that:

"Innovation is more important than ever"

She stressed that how quickly we respond and adapt to innovation is critical for the successful future of medical education.

Another recurring theme from the day was our responsibility to support both the physical and mental wellbeing of our students and to provide them with the necessary resilience and skills for a life of challenge, uncertainty and change.   Cognitive resilience of healthcare professionals is an area we are currently researching.

The CUREMeDE team were linked to 8 posters at the event.  To read more about the research presented in these posters please visit our projects page.
