Cardiff has become the first University in Wales to be recognised by the Soil Association for its commitment to providing food that is freshly prepared, free from controversial additives and better for animal welfare.
The bronze Food for Life Catering Mark award from the Soil Association acts as a guarantee for staff and students that the food served in University restaurants is seasonal, contains no trans fats, e-numbers or additives like MSG and is free from genetically modified ingredients.
Speaking about the award, Cardiff's Catering & Bars Manager, Clive Newton said: "We're the first Welsh university and one of only nine universities in the whole of the UK, to receive this bronze award. It's fantastic that the work of the catering team has been recognised in this way. Food is freshly prepared by our chefs, additive free and wherever possible includes local ingredients from our 17 Welsh-based suppliers."
