'We Are Cardiff' invites Cardiff University staff to share their story

15 Mai 2013

The local project 'We Are Cardiff' best known for its community centred blog is set to produce an independent short film about life in the city of Cardiff with support from the University.

Building on the popularity of its blog, the film aims to bring the lives of Cardiff people to life, whilst also showing the city's alternative side.

We Are Cardiff say: "Cardiff is a little city, but at the same time, it's a great one. We really love our city and think we have a great chance to make a film that showcases how wonderful, creative and supportive a place to live it can be."

Helia Phoenix, the creator of the We Are Cardiff project and artistic director of the film said: "Having been a student at Cardiff University – both undergrad and postgrad – I've got first-hand experience of how important the University is to the city. We are overjoyed to be teaming up with Cardiff University to showcase what a wonderful city Cardiff is. We really believe in it and I hope we can show that off to the world."

Sandra Elliott, Director of Communications and International Relations said: "I'm pleased to announce the University's involvement with the We Are Cardiff film project. The community is one of the many factors that make our city such an attractive place to live and study.

"It will be wonderful to see the lives of our students featured as part of the community in this unique documentary."

The short film hopes to cover a year in the life of the city and will feature events and activities as wide and varying as a roller derby, Sŵn Festival and Cardiff Students' Union's festival of diversity Go Global.

The short film is scheduled for release this summer. The University will be hosting screenings across campus later this year and sharing the film across its own social media channels.

To keep up to date with the film follow @WeAreCardiff and @CardiffUni on Twitter or check out the film's blog at: http://wearecardiffportraitofacity.wordpress.com/

As part of the partnership Cardiff University is also looking for students and staff to add their story to the We Are Cardiff blog site. There's no word limit to your Cardiff story – it can be as short as one paragraph, as long as a thousand words, be a narrative, be in the third person or even be a poem.

If you would like to write a blog post for the site get in touch with the Public Relations team at publicrelations@cardiff.ac.uk
