Get It Out For Cardiff

Get It Out For Cardiff, the annual end of year recycling, waste and charity collection initiative is now underway.

The scheme is designed to help students across Cardiff plan a stress-free move out of their accommodation, whilst ensuring that the local community is left clean and tidy.

18 Green Zones have been set up in halls of residences and Student Unions across the city where you can donate clothing, food (unopened tins, packets, jars etc.), small electrical items, books, CDs, DVDs and kitchen items (plates, mugs, utensils, pans etc.).

There are also 18 YMCA re-use banks across the city which are in place all year round to collect clothes, shoes, bags, textiles, small electrical items, books, CDs/DVDs.

Last year over 16 tonnes of re-usable items were donated to the scheme.

A number of charities benefit from the Get It Out For Cardiff scheme. Food is being collected for FareShare Cymru - supporting communities to relieve food poverty. Clothing, electrical items, media and bric-a-brac are being collected for the YMCA to directly reinvest in projects and services for homeless people at the Cardiff YMCA Housing Association. Kitchen items will be stored over the summer by Cardiff Self Storage and sold to students at the start of term at heavily discounted prices, with all proceeds going to charity.
