Interdisciplinary Research on Energy Transitions

Sustainable Places PhD student Alister Forman, along with Max Lacey-Barnacle from the Welsh School of Architecture, are hosting the Interdisciplinary Research on Energy Transitions Postgraduate Conference in October 2015.

The aim of the conference is to create a forum to explore emergent research on energy transitions in the UK context. The conference seeks to provoke discussion on energy transitions to low carbon and renewable energy systems and the social, political, economic, scalar, institutional, technical and environmental processes and outcomes heralded by these transition processes.  In so doing, the conference will facilitate the exchange of knowledge, methodologies, case studies, theories and ideas in what is an emerging and exciting field of research.

There is a large variety of energy transitions research currently occurring both throughout the UK and globally. This event will bring various disciplinary strands together; creating a strategic position for the energy research community and showcasing both the abundance and importance of the research taking place. The conference will provide a platform for networking and engagement between all participants and delegates in order to foster partnerships within and beyond the research community at Cardiff.

Aimed at current doctoral students and early career researchers, this conference seeks to bring together a diversity of disciplinary perspectives on energy transitions to low carbon and renewable energy systems whilst attending to the social, political, economic, scalar, institutional, technical and environmental processes and outcomes heralded by these transition processes.

Call for Papers

Abstracts of 250 words are invited from any discipline that is engaged in energy transitions research across the UK, although we will particularly welcome proposals from social science researchers addressing critical perspectives on energy transitions, reflections and evidence-based contributions on actual and idealised transitions pathways and the nascent themes of justice, equity and energy behaviours and repertoires within transition processes. Please include a short biography of no more than 250 words with your abstract submission.

The conference will be formed of 9 presentations across 3 panels alongside two invited lectures comprising an opening address by Professor PeterPearson from Imperial Collage London and keynote speech in the evening by Professor Gordon Walker from Lancaster University.
