Enrolment and induction information for students on the English for University study programme.

Many congratulations on gaining your place of study at Cardiff University, The information below tells you what you need to know about coming to Cardiff for the English for University Study programme. Please read everything carefully and email us at elt@cardiff.ac.uk if you have any questions.

When you arrive you will need to pick up your student ID card and attend a series of school enrolment and induction events that will help you to settle into life at University.

It's very important you complete both online and school enrolment so that you can attend your classes, access University buildings and remain in the UK.

We will send you an email telling you how to enrol online. You should try to do this before you arrive in Cardiff.

If you aren't able to, don't worry – we'll help you to do it once you arrive in the city.

It is essential that you tell us of any changes to your correspondence and e-mail address, so we can keep you updated about your course.

If you are already in the UK or have been in the UK recently

If you are already in the UK, you must have the correct visa to enrol at Cardiff University. It is very important that you make sure you have a suitable visa to enrol at Cardiff University. If you are already in the UK, or have already had a Tier 4 student visa, please contact us immediately: elt@cardiff.ac.uk

Private accommodation

If you'd like to live in private accommodation, please make sure you arrive in Cardiff early to allow yourself enough time to look for – and move into – a suitable flat or house. It'll be a lot easier to do this before your course has started.

Arrivals into Cardiff or Bristol Airport

If you'll be arriving into Cardiff or Bristol Airport, please see the International Office's guidance on travelling to Cardiff.

If your parents or other members of your family are accompanying you to Cardiff, you should book hotel accommodation for them in Cardiff as soon as possible.

Induction week

All students are expected to be in Cardiff for the start of induction week, Monday 13 January 2020.

During induction week, there will be important compulsory meetings to attend, you will take our entry test and you will meet your tutors and other students on the course. This will all help you settle into academic life at Cardiff University.

You must attend all events on the induction schedule.

We will give you a copy of the ELP enrolment terms and conditions on the first day of your course.

Welcome meeting

With Helen Evans (Director of English Language Programmes) and the English for University Study Programme Course Co-ordinator.

Course orientation

A discussion of course expectations, performance, assessment, module content, timetabling and reports with the English for University Study Programme Course Co-ordinator.

You will be given an appointment card for the following events that will be taking place during your induction: fee payment, academic counselling, entry test, ID card collection and speaking test time.

Walking tour of the University campus

Your teachers will take you on a walking tour.

Fee Payment

You will be given an appointment time at your welcome meeting. Come to Deri House to pay your course fees or discuss your sponsorship details.

Enrolment and academic counselling

We will ask students for more information about their future academic plans. Students will have a chance to ask any questions about enrolment or the course.

Compulsory entry test

Students are tested with a multiple choice language test and written text.

You will have received an appointment time for your ID card collection during Monday’s welcome meeting.

You will have received an appointment card providing you with your speaking test appointment time.

You can collect your timetable from Deri House Reception and find out your class allocation from the EfUS notice board on the 1st floor.
