Incoming international exchanges

Our reciprocal exchange agreements are a foundation for the strong working relationships we have with partner institutions around the world, and we welcome a significant number of international exchange students to Cardiff every year.
We recognise and value the contribution of our international exchange visitors to the vibrancy and diversity of our student community and strive to ensure that they have an enjoyable and rewarding time with us – academically and socially.
Usually, as an incoming exchange student, you would spend the year with us, although we do offer the opportunity for single semester exchanges (you are encouraged to visit for the autumn semester when the greatest number of modules will be available to you).
Your academic experience in Cardiff
During your time with us you will be able to select modules from our second and third year provision and from across our disciplines – Economics, Accounting and Finance, and Business Management. Module choices will need to be agreed by your home institution and by us.
Teaching takes place over two semesters – autumn (from September to January) and spring (from February to June) – and is made up of lectures, seminars and tutorials. Assessment varies, but is usually a combination of written exams and coursework (such as essays, presentations or case studies).
The pass mark at Cardiff University is 40% and your results will be confirmed at the exchange student examining board. Transcripts will be sent to the international office of your home university in July of each year.
You can expect a high level of support and expert service before you arrive in Cardiff and once you are enrolled with us. We strive to offer accommodation on campus (in halls of residence or student apartments) to all exchange students attending for one academic year, although this cannot be guaranteed. If you are attending for a single semester, our International Office will provide advice on finding accommodation in the private sector.
