We are an international institution and support a whole host of opportunities for our undergraduate students to spend part of their degree studying abroad.
We also welcome a significant number of incoming international exchange students from our partner universities.
Our exchange activity is informed by an acute understanding of the importance of international exposure in helping to set you apart from your peers, nurturing new and transferable skills, and enhancing your understanding of business in a global context.
Studying abroad provides you with the opportunity to gain a different perspective on academic and social issues and begin building your network to help accelerate your career after graduation.
We have a long history of enabling student exchange and we use all of the knowledge, experience and expertise built up over 20 years to support you to get the very best out of your time abroad.
Study abroad opportunities
There are many different opportunities to add a study abroad element to your time with us:
Degrees with a language
The majority of studying abroad opportunities are offered through our degrees with a language programmes. We currently provide undergraduate language degree programmes combined with French, Spanish and German. On these schemes, you spend the third year of a four year degree studying appropriate modules, taught and assessed through the medium of the relevant language, at one of our partner institutions. There is also an option to study Japanese through our relationship with the School of Modern Languages.
Degree with a year abroad in English
We offer the opportunity for any Business School student, subject to eligibility and application, to study for a year abroad, taught and assessed in the English language. You would transfer to the four-year scheme after beginning your studies with us. On these schemes, you spend the third year of a four year degree with one of our partner institutions, in a country of your choice.
For students taking BSc Business Management International Management, we offer the opportunity to study for a semester abroad, taught and assessed in English. On this scheme, you spend the spring semester of your second year (of a three-year degree) at a partner institution.
These short-term placements take place in a variety of locations around the world for a minimum of four weeks. They are not linked to your degree scheme and are facilitated by the University’s Global Opportunities Centre.
Grants for studying abroad
Students studying abroad in Europe will usually do so under the Erasmus programme, which provides some financial support in the form of a non-returnable grant (the value of which varies depending on a range of factors). You will continue to be eligible for student loans during your time abroad.
