Our primary aim is the effective and sustainable design, construction and operation of the built environment.
We are recognised as a Centre of Excellence by the Welsh Assembly Government. These are a network of accredited research groups, which deliver world-class science and technology to companies in the UK and across the world.
For over 20 years, we have pioneered research and established an international reputation in the fields of environmental design, energy efficiency of buildings and urban sustainable development. The centre comprises an established, multi-disciplinary group of environmental design specialists including architects, engineers, physicists, planners and social and environmental scientists.
This brings a uniquely holistic inter-disciplinary approach to effective and sustainable design, construction and operation of the built environment.
In more recent years, we have expanded our areas of expertise to include the implementation of water, waste and environmental management systems and research into transport and public health.
We play a major role in informing not only the future of building design, but also in defining and developing the whole area of urban sustainability.
