Multi-sector pre-registration pharmacy training
In 2016/17, Betsi Cadwalader University Health Board (BCUHB) undertook a new integrated pre-registration (pre-reg) training programme.
This new programme provided experience in hospital, community and primary care settings and was evaluated by Bethan Broad.
Our study aims to extend this initial evaluation as well as looking at future cohorts.
Our specific objectives are:
- to seek the views of the first cohort of trainees on their sense of how the programme prepared them for practice as pharmacists
- to explore the opinions of their current line-managers on their preparedness for practice
- to consult with pre-regs following the current integrated programme, and their supervisors, exploring whether findings from the first evaluation are replicated
- to compare pre-reg pharmacists’ views from the three programmes (integrated, hospital based and community based), exploring their sense of how their programme is preparing them for practice.
