Information for prospective undergraduate students during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

We are aware that the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is having an impact on lives across the world and understand that you are likely to be concerned about how this will affect your application to Cardiff and your ability to study with us.

The situation is constantly changing but we will do our best to keep you up to date with the latest information and developments during this difficult and uncertain period.

New applications for September 2021

We continue to welcome applications and to support our applicants as far as possible. Our application processes, entry requirements and start dates are currently unchanged for 2021 entry. However, we are aware of the difficulties that some of our applicants may face as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19) and that some examinations and qualification results may be delayed in 2021.

We are monitoring the situation very closely and we are working with sector organisations to identify what actions may be required to support affected applicants. We will communicate any changes to our applicants via email.

Appeals and changes to exam results

We want to support students through this challenging period. Find out more about appeals or recent changes to exam results and what this means for your offer of a place.

Undergraduate degree programmes

The Admissions team are operating remotely, including our telephone lines, and we will continue to process applications as normal. You will be kept up to date about your application via email and we strongly recommend that you check your email regularly.

Unless your query is urgent we would encourage you to contact us by emailing admissions@cardiff.ac.uk.

Please ensure that in all correspondence you quote:

  • your full name
  • UCAS Personal ID
  • the programme for which you are applying.

For urgent enquiries please call the Admissions team on +44 (0)29 2087 9999. We are available Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) between 8:30 and 17:00.

We are aware of the different grading process for qualifications taken in 2020 as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19). We can confirm that we will recognise awards and qualifications, (that meet our entry requirements) made during this period for entry in this and future years and we will not be applying a differential recognition policy.

Subject to application by the appropriate UCAS deadline for the same programme of study, we will guarantee the same conditions of offer for September 2021 entry to applicants who applied to Cardiff University in the 2020 admissions cycle, who did not receive grades that met the terms of their offer and are choosing to sit them in the 2020/21 academic year.

We will also accept the personal statement and reference that you submitted previously, unless you would like to update them.

At the moment we are planning for all courses starting in September 2021 to go ahead as planned.

The University is monitoring the situation closely and will put in place plans in the event that this is not possible, as well as reviewing steps which may need to be taken to support our applicants.

Any information in relation to a change in start date or delivery of a programme of study, will be communicated to applicants via email.

Find out about the protective measures and new ways of learning we have in place to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable university experience in Cardiff.
