FDC Coaching

Providing talented footballers the opportunity to develop in the pathway.

The aim of Cardiff University Football Development Centre is to improve the technical ability and tactical understanding of promising young players and enable them to play and train at a higher level.

Cardiff and Vale Schools Football Association

Cardiff University Sport is pleased to continue its partnership with Cardiff and Vale Schools Football Association to ensure that talented players have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Players who are excelling within the Cardiff University Football Development Centre will be provided with the opportunity to progress into the Cardiff and Vale Schools FA squads.

Talent ID process

Our talent ID process with Cardiff and Vale Schools FA has been completed and squads have been selected for the current (2021 - 2022) season. However, our programme remains accessible to talented footballers in the Cardiff and Vale area and we encourage you to contact us if you would like any further information.

Training

Players selected for the Cardiff University Football Development Centre squad attend weekly training sessions between September 2021 and April 2022 at either Cardiff University Sports Fields or Cardiff University Sports Training Village.

Programme

In addition to weekly training sessions, players participate in fixtures against Welsh Schools county representative squads and FAW/EFL academies both in Wales and England, offering squad members high quality competition and opportunities to demonstrate their ability.

Fixtures between Cardiff University Football Development Centre and Cardiff and Vale Schools FA take place during the season to allow all coaches and managers to assess players' development.

Fixtures are an additional opportunity to work on topics covered in the weekly training sessions, with the importance being placed on player development over results.

Development

Players in our programme will have the opportunity to develop their technical ability and tactical understanding in a structured and fun learning environment. The emphasis for our coaches is on developing players the FAW 'Welsh Way'. Players selected attend our Football Development Centre training sessions and fixtures in addition to any club/school football commitments.

All players participate in a 3 week futsal (indoor football) block during the winter months to further challenge and expand their football education. Players are provided with sport science support and receive both mid/end of season individual development plans.

Squad members receive quality coaching led by FAW/UEFA B Licence qualified coaches.
