The idea

To remove barriers and create pathways for young people to gain business and soft skills training that is valued by local employers.

Progress

To launch the new Cardiff University social enterprise 'BeeWellbeing Ltd', Pharmabees are running an enterprise challenge to engage students and young people with work readiness and enterprise skills.

It is hoped that they can help to remove barriers and create pathways for young people to gain business and soft skills training that is valued by local employers.

The competition will have multiple stages of interaction and young people will be challenged to create a brand identity for new Pharmabees products to be sold in a ‘pop-up’ shop designed within the St. David’s 2 shopping centre in Cardiff.

Working in teams, Cardiff University students and young people from Grangetown will be challenged to design a brand and marketing plan for their product focusing on their skills in business, pricing, research, social media, design and marketing.

Winning students will receive expert coaching and will be given the opportunity to trade as a business over a 6 week period in a ‘pop-up’ store in St. Davids 2 during October/November 2018.

The winning team get the opportunity to receive expert advice and trade as a business selling their product at St. Davids, Cardiff.

The winning team of budding entrepreneurs will have a unique opportunity to take forward their ideas to develop their own socially focused, profit-making company, with a USP that your products are derived from £10,000's of research conducted by Cardiff University's School of Pharmacy. Access to the University’s innovative research portfolio will be granted on a license basis, with the majority of profits from product sales kept by the company. A portion of Cardiff University’s revenue will also be re-invested into innovative bee-focused research and education programmes which aims to explore natural antibacterial properties in plants and raises awareness of the value of bees to society.

We require that entrants be current students of Cardiff University, young people living in Grangetown or members of Grange Pavilion Youth Forum.
