Kids’ University

Organised trips for kids to visit the University & lecture rooms.

The idea

“I co-ordinate the Riverside Homework Club and most of our young people are from Grangetown.

I would like to see more trips for young people to visit the University buildings and lecture rooms.

We would also really appreciate it if the University could work in partnership with our annual awards ceremony ‘Kids University’. Perhaps a homework club is needed in Grangetown too?”

Progress

We really liked the idea of bringing the University to young people in Grangetown and vice-versa. There are a number of Schools across the University who already regularly welcome visits to the University from school children and youth groups.

Earlier this year, Architecture students ran workshops with primary school children from St Paul’s and Grangetown Primary, then invited the pupils to the Welsh School of Architecture to show the pupil’s their final designs.

Students from Cardiff University’s School of Engineering have also been out and about, taking their self-built Racing Car to Grangetown Primary to teach local pupils about the joys of learning science, maths, technology and engineering.

Next steps

Community Gateway will be supporting the co-ordination of visits to Cardiff University and the different Schools and Departments here. Please get in touch if you would like to arrange a visit.
