Research conducted by the Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research uses administrative data to answer questions about education for children with additional learning needs (ALN).

Open to educational professionals who support children with additional learning needs at primary school, this talk provides an introduction into administrative data: what it is, how it is collected, and how it is stored/secured anonymously.

Researchers will share examples of studies conducted with this data, and how they have influenced policy to improve the school experience of children with ALN in Wales.

Following the talk, participants will be encouraged to share their views on topics of priority for ALN research, by suggesting research questions which could be asked with the data. These anonymous insights will help Cardiff University establish future research priorities that make a positive difference to communities.

This event forms part Cardiff University’s free events programme for the Festival of Social Science made possible thanks to funding from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
