Cardiff Business School Breakfast Briefing - COP28: A New Imperative to Take Climate Action?

Join Dr Erin Gill, Global Marketing Director of Arup, a global sustainable development consultancy, and member of Cardiff Business School’s International Advisory Board, who has just returned from participating in the UN Climate Change Conference, COP 28, in Dubai, to hear about her first-hand experience of the event.

Erin will explore how businesses of all types and sizes as well as local and national governments can use what was discussed and agreed in Dubai as a new impetus for action. To put these developments into context, Erin will share Arup’s strategy relating to climate change, discussing its role as an enabler of sustainable development, and will invite our Business School community to reflect on how they can apply similar perspectives to their own strategic approaches to climate change.

Speaker Biography

Erin Gill led Arup’s team at COP28, which included the participation of the company’s global CEO. Arup is a global, employee-owned sustainable development consultancy, renowned for its expertise in the planning and design of the built environment. It employs more than 300 people in Wales. Erin is Arup’s global marketing director. Prior to joining the firm, she spent two decades as an energy and environment journalist, specialising in international climate and sustainability policy, regulation, and business’ response to it. She has a PhD in environmental history from Aberystwyth University and is a chartered environmentalist.

In 2021, Arup announced it would no longer take on new work designed to support the extraction, refining or transport of fossil fuels. In the first year following implementation of that commitment, Arup’s global energy business revenue grew by 33%.
