Media Champions

Developing communications to create a better informed community.

The idea

There is sometimes a negative perception of young people and of Grangetown; we want to train young people who are not in employment, education or training we want to raise the profile of young people and Grangetown by reporting positive news stories using Twitter, blogs and local media.

Progress

Community Gateway worked with the Youth Service in Grangetown to pilot the Communications Champions project.

Young people from Grangetown and a Cardiff University student have been working together to interview Grangetown businesses and write articles, blogs and tweets which can be displayed in the Grangetown News and on Cardiff University’s website.

Next steps

Young people from Grangetown have continued to supply content to the Grangetown News and have worked on content for several other projects including Safety Week and Love Grangetown. The Grange Pavilion Youth Forum will continue to work in their community and with the University on communications projects over the coming years.
