With our Accounting and Finance programmes, you will have the opportunity to pursue a challenging and stimulating combination of applied and academic study.

Many of our staff are leading international experts in their fields of research and a significant number are qualified accountants with many years of professional experience.

A number of classes are taught by practising accountants currently working for global firms such as PwC, KPMG and Grant Thornton. Each year we organise a range of skills-based workshops in partnership with the large accounting firms and the professional accounting bodies.

We currently hold a number of accreditations from the industry’s key professional bodies and can offer exemptions from professional exams based on the modules studied during your degree.

Work placements

We are one of only three universities in the UK which participates in the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) Undergraduate Partnership Programme (UPP). Under the programme, if you are a BSc Accounting or BSc Accounting and Finance student you are eligible (dependent on criteria) to apply for a year working in industry.

This is a salaried placement and takes place during the third year of study. It will also be classed as the first year of an ICAEW training contract, giving you the opportunity to commence the Association of Chartered Accountants (ACA) qualification. This means that you will subsequently be able to qualify as a chartered accountant in two years post-graduation, rather than the customary three years.

Pathway to a degree

We’ve developed a pathway programme to help you study towards an undergraduate degree in Accounting (BSc).

Pathways are taught and assessed in similar ways to first-year undergraduate courses and offer an alternative to A-levels and other access qualifications.

You’ll gain first-hand experience of studying in a vibrant higher education environment, picking up the tools and techniques to succeed on an undergraduate degree.
