Dr Gabe Treharne

Dr Gabe Treharne was a member of Council and Court from August 2008 to July 2016.

He was appointed Vice-Chair of Council in August 2012. He was also a member of Policy and Resources, Health, Safety and Environment and Remuneration Committees and Investment and Banking Sub-Committee.

Gabe graduated from Swansea University in 1966 and completed his Doctorate there in 1970. He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Glamorgan in 2006.

Gabe joined Arup, one of the largest global firms of designers, engineers, planners and business consultants as a Geotechnical engineer working in London advising on site investigations, foundations, earthworks and ground improvement techniques both in the UK and abroad. He applied his skills to projects involving highways, bridges, major industrial and commercial developments, as well as domestic, leisure and educational projects.

In 1975 he moved to Cardiff to be responsible for Geotechnical and general Civil Engineering commissions. He became Regional Director in 1982, a Director of Ove Arup and Partners Ltd in 1988 and a member of the Europe Board of Ove Arup & Partners Ltd 2004-2007. Since the early 1990s he jointly led the Arup offices in Cardiff, Wrexham and the Isle of Man; with a staff of 300, including design engineers, planners, project managers and various technical specialists.

Gabe retired from Arup at the beginning of April 2008 but has been retained by them as a consultant.
