Dr Steven Luke MBE
Dr Steven Luke MBE is a Consultant with a well established reputation for good leadership, successful financial management and proven experience of strategic business planning.
He was previously a Director of Ove Arup & Partners International up to August 2017 and retired after 42 years service. He holds a First Class BSc in Civil and Structural Engineering, an MSc and a PhD – all from Cardiff University. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers and Civil Engineers.
Dr Luke joined Arup in 1975 and has held a number of roles in the company. He was responsible for a multidisciplinary team, including employees undertaking environment, infrastructure and energy work. As the Leader of the Wales Group Cardiff office he was responsible for all operational matters, including human resources, business development, marketing and systems. He also led on the West Region Built Environment Division.
Dr Luke has also held a number of non-executive roles including the Welsh National Opera, Cardiff Theatrical Services Group, Safle; Public Arts Wales, BITC (Business in the Community) Professional Firms Group from 1989-2005 and he was a trustee of the Wales Millennium Centre from 2009-2015. Until 2007, for a period of about ten years, he was an external lecturer on the architectural engineering course in the University’s School of Engineering and maintained contact with the School through Arup’s links, including provision of small prizes to students, sponsorship of the library and support for a Chair post.
Dr Luke joined the Council of Cardiff University on 1 August 2015. He is a member of the Policy and Resources Committee, Chairman of the Estates & Infrastructure Sub-committee and a member of the Health, Safety and Environmental Committee.
